Obituary of Joseph B. Boise
Joseph B. Boise, formerly of Marcellus, passed away peacefully at Francis House on March 23, 2016. Joe was born May 18, 1927 to Joseph and Naomi Boise in Syracuse. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School and attended Lemoyne College. Joe proudly served in the Army during WWII stationed in Paris at the American Embassy and retired from the Syracuse Newspapers. He was a member of the Marcellus American Legion Ralph Share Post 297.
Joe was an avid golfer and a member of Tanner Valley Golf Club for 40 years. He was also a life long Yankee fan. He loved living on First Street in Marcellus where he resided for 45 years. Joe married MaryAnn Reid in 1952 and together they raised five children.
Joe was predeceased by his wife, Mary, his brother David, his sister Catherine Cushing and best friend Ted Costello.
He is survived by his sons Joseph Jr., David, Thomas (Catherine), James (Nancy) and daughter Theresa Tross (Rick Quackenbush); grandsons Thomas and Michael Tross, and Brian and Joseph Boise; sisters Ann Crowe Costello and Joan Wassel; sister-in-law Nancy Murray; dear friend Hannelore Sherman and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Francis House and his caregivers Buttercup, Nikki and Melissa and the staff at Brookdale Summerfield and also a special thank you to Ed Mahoney, Joe's friend for many years.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7pm Monday, March 28, with an American Legion Service to be held at 7pm, both at Ryan Funeral Home, 44 E. Main Street, Marcellus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9am Tuesday, March 29, in St. Francis Xavier Church, Marcellus. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus.
