Obituary of Edward J. Corcoran
Edward J, Corcoran, 90 of Marietta, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 8th at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Ed was born in Syracuse to the late Mayor Thomas J. and Virginia Corcoran. In his youth, he achieved the distinct honor of Eagle Scout. After Central Tech H.S., he served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Chilton as a signalman. Upon his return home, Ed wed his sweetheart, Jean Bishop.
While working several day jobs, Ed went to night school at SU, and then managed a family-owned business, Peerless Press, Inc. until his retirement in 1991. He was an active member of the Rotary for over 60 years in Syracuse and Skaneateles. He was also a 4th degree Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus Council #4114. Ed stayed active by gardening, swimming, sailing, cross country skiing, spending time with his many grandkids, or just feeding the birds.
Ed was preceded in death by daughter Patricia Toomey and son Peter, sisters Mary, Eileen and brothers Thomas and Robert.
Surviving are his loving wife of 68 years, the former Jean G. Bishop; children Tom (Kathy) of Missouri, Janet (David) French of Marietta, Judith (Patrick) Campbell of Marcellus, Stephen of Dallas TX, Marcia of Dallas TX, Philip (Mary) of Syracuse and Amy of Buffalo; siblings Paul, J. Arthur, William, Raymond, Sister Thomas Marie and Virginia Sexton; 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, October 16 at Ryan Funeral Home, 44 E. Main Street, Marcellus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday, October 17 in St. Patrick's Church, Route 80, Otisco. The Rite of Committal and burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus.
