Obituary of Daniel O. Sheggrud

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dad, Daniel Owen Sheggrud, on Feb. 16, 2024 at the age of 75 after a long illness. He was born Nov. 9, 1948 in Syracuse, NY to Owen and Gertrude (Rudolph) Sheggrud. Dan grew up in Cardiff, NY and graduated from LaFayette Central School in 1967.

A man of many hobbies, Dan enjoyed photography; caricatures; oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting; and scrimshaw that he perfected while stationed in Alaska. He also enjoyed performing stand-up comedy, stage hypnosis, and magic.

While in the US Army, he was extremely proud of his time stationed in Washington, DC where he photographed presidents and various heads of state and his next duty station as press/photographer for the Army's helicopter stunt team, the Silver Eagles.

Dan leaves behind his daughter Sherry Sheggrud and his sons Dennis (Samantha) Sheggrud and Christopher (Emily) Brooks; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He will be missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

Calling hours will be 1 to 3pm Saturday, March 9, 2024 and the Military Honors Service will follow at 3pm, both held at Ryan Funeral Home, 44 E. Main Street, Marcellus, NY.
