Obituary of Albert Garlatti
Albert Garlatti, age 92, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home. He was born Friday, March 13th, 1931 in San Vito Al Tagliamento, Italy. Albert was an avid cyclist and he raced professionally as a teenager. In the 1950s, he was a sergeant and driver with a tank division in Italy. Albert enjoyed exploring the countryside, sleeping under trees, riding his bike to different cities and living life to the fullest. In 1961 he married Norma Varengo, and soon after moved to America to start his family. As a talented stone mason, he helped build many notable buildings in the area, including Brighton Towers and Bird Library. Albert was an avid stamp collector, coin collector and gardener. He shared his passion for plants with his oldest granddaughter, Ariane.
Nonno, as he was known to his grandchildren, had a zest for life, whether it was teaching his grandchildren about history, gardening, or how to drive a tractor in the backyard, he was always ready to share his knowledge and create fun. He will be remembered for his homemade pizza and bread, for his laughter, his uncanny ability to bond with animals and his incredible stories.
Albert is predeceased by his wife Norma; his parents Guido and Maria; his many siblings and brothers-in-law Nello (Hope) and Dino (Murial); as well as his grandson-in-law CPT Patrick Cassidy. He is survived by his sons Albert (Sylvia) and Michael (Deborah); daughter-in-law Mary; grandchildren Ariane Cassidy, Christopher, Mason, and Emily (Matthew); his great-grandsons who brought him immense joy, Ronin Cassidy and Lorcan Cassidy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
