Velda Amidon

Obituary of Velda R. Amidon

On December 9th Velda Amidon passed away from Covid-19 at Loretto Nursing Home where she had received loving care for several years. The daughter of Charles and Oliva Fenner, Velda grew up in South Onondaga and then spent many happy years in Pleasant Valley where she and her husband, Pete, raised their five children. Velda worked as a teller for First Trust & Deposit, both at Marcellus and Onondaga Hill offices before retiring from Key Bank as Manager of the Safe Deposit Department. She recently celebrated her 95th birthday singing along to her favorite tunes, while outside her window her family gathered with balloons and banners. Velda was especially fond of dancing, with any sound of music setting her feet to moving, even, in later years, from the confines of her wheelchair. She was predeceased by her husband William (Pete) in 1979; daughter Caron in 1988 and her sister Joan in 2009. Velda is survived by one son, William (Lisa), as well as daughters: Sharon Amidon, Carol (Ron) Bourque, Susan Amidon (Mike Cargen), and Kimberly Amidon. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Loretto Foundation, 700 E. Brighton Ave.-First Floor, Syracuse, NY 13205, as we are very grateful for the dedication and support of their staff during these most challenging times.
