Obituary of Corporal Zachary James DeSantis
Corporal Zachary James DeSantis, 23, of Marcellus, passed away on August 5, 2017. Zach was a 2012 graduate of Marcellus Central School and attended Onondaga Community College prior to joining the United States Marine Corps in October of 2014. Zach completed his basic training at MCRD at Parris Island, SC and was assigned to Camp Geiger, NC for infantry training. He then attended the Marine Base at Chesapeake VA, for specialized security forces training and was assigned to the Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team (FAST) at Kitsap/Bangor Naval Base in Bremerton, WA.
Zach was a kind and gentle young man and was a loyal friend to many, most recently the brothers he served with in the Marines. He loved to ski and snowboard, was an avid baseball fan and an accomplished golfer. Zach was extremely proud to have served his country as a United States Marine. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Anthony M. DeSantis and maternal grandfather James S. Stevens.
Zach is survived by his parents Dean and Mary (Stevens) DeSantis of Marcellus; his sister Amanda of Marcellus; grandmothers Helen Stevens and Anne DeSantis; Uncle Michael (Mary Beth) DeSantis of Trumbull, CT; Aunt Lori (Craig) Snyder of Winchester Center, CT; and cousins Michael and Megan DeSantis, Alex, Chad and Luke Snyder.
Friends may call from 4 to 7pm Thursday, August 17, 2017 in the Marcellus First Presbyterian Church, 1 East Main Street, Marcellus. The funeral service will be 10am Friday, August 18 also held in the Marcellus First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
